It can also be used on qualifying used electric vehicles.  A nonrefundable tax credit will lower your tax liability by the credit amount. However, it can only be used to offset taxes owed. If you do not owe taxes and are receiving a refund, you can not use the tax credit.  Taxpayers can only claim one credit per vehicle. The new vehicle EV tax credit is worth up to a total of $7,500. It consists of a $3,750 tax credit for the battery requirement and a $3,750 tax credit for the critical minerals requirement. The new electric vehicle must meet several other qualifications in order to qualify the full EV tax credit. You may also qualify for up to $4,000 tax credit on qualifying used electric vehicles. There is some lean during tight cornering, but overall the Compass feels well-controlled, solidly planted, and capable on the road. An off-road course we braved when we first drove the Compass revealed that it can hold its own at least over moderate obstacles, and we noticed nary a stumble from the all-wheel-drive system. The potential 4xe plug-in hybrid will offer an eco-friendly alternative to the regular gas-powered variants. However, we haven't driven or tested that version yet. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo With an attractive dashboard and improved features, the 2022 Compass looks to be an improvement versus the previous model year, which was plagued by nondescript styling and unremarkable interior materials. Plus, its interior is comfortable, functional, and has enough space for four adult passengers. The back seat is neither the largest nor the smallest of the crossovers in this diverse class. We still like to think the Jeep Compass has spacious front and rear seats for all to enjoy. Its high seat bottoms in the back seat mean that passengers' legs are fully supported, and even long rides can be comfortable. Despite its boxy exterior and what at first appears to be competitive cargo volume, the Compass is not the roomiest of its set. It has enough luggage space for an airport run but long trips could be a squeeze. The rear seatbacks angle slightly upward when folded, and the last Compass we tested held only 17 carry-on suitcases with the seats stowed. For the 2021 model year, Jeep launched a new generation of the Grand Cherokee but offered the new model only as a the L three-row variant (reviewed separately) alongside the previous generation two-row GC. A Trailhawk model with more-robust off-road equipment and rough-country capability is all but a certainty, although Jeep has not mentioned such a variant just yet. When we get a chance to test the new Grand Cherokee at our test track, we'll update this story with results. On the performance end of the spectrum, we expect Jeep to continue to offer high performance SRT and Trackhawk models, but we review those separately. Speaking of the interior, it's heavy on tech, with up to five available displays, including one that's dedicated to the front passenger. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but we figure most buyers will upgrade to one of the Wagoneer's available four-wheel drive systems; an optional air suspension is also offered and gives the big Jeep even more off-road capability. The Wagoneer is new for Jeep for 2022, but it's hardly a new name for the brand. The Wagoneer name badge first appeared in 1963 alongside that of the luxurious Grand Wagoneer SUV.
